Mastering the Art of Elegance: Crafting Professional Wedding Pictures

Uncategorized

Your wedding day – a beautiful tapestry woven with love, dreams, and laughter – deserves to be immortalized in the most professional and captivating manner possible. Your wedding pictures are not just snapshots; they are the visual story that will forever remind you of the magical moments that marked the beginning of your journey together. Whether you’re entrusting this task to a professional photographer or embarking on a DIY approach, here’s a comprehensive guide on how to make your wedding pictures radiate with professionalism and timeless elegance.

1. Plan Ahead for Photographic Excellence

The journey to professional wedding pictures begins well before the big day itself. Research and select a photographer whose style resonates with your vision. Look through their portfolio to ensure their expertise aligns with your preferences. Initiate conversations early to discuss your expectations, wedding schedule, and the specific moments you want to capture.

2. Capture Your Unique Vision

Communication is the cornerstone of achieving the perfect wedding album. Before your wedding, sit down with your chosen photographer to discuss your vision, themes, colour palettes, and any sentimental details you want highlighted. Share your wedding day itinerary to help the photographer prepare and anticipate critical moments.

3. Bask in the Warmth of Natural Light

Lighting is the heart of photography, and the glow of natural light adds an ethereal touch to your wedding pictures. Whenever possible, arrange outdoor shoots during the “golden hour” – the period just before sunset or after sunrise. The soft, diffused light during this time creates a magical ambiance. If your celebrations are indoors, choose venues with large windows that allow natural light to flow in gracefully.

4. Artful Poses for Timeless Elegance

While posed shots are a wedding staple, candid moments can capture the essence of your day in its most authentic form. Unscripted laughter, stolen glances, and tender interactions between you and your guests carry the raw emotions of the day. Encourage your photographer to focus on capturing these genuine moments that tell a story beyond words.

5. Pay Homage to Details

The art of professional wedding photography extends beyond people and moments; it embraces the intricate details that define your day. From the elegant swirl of your dress to the delicate petals of your bouquet, these details contribute to the narrative. Direct your photographer’s lens to capture shots of your wedding attire, rings, invitation suite, centrepieces, and all the unique elements that define your celebration.

6. Emotions Unveiled

Professional wedding photography encapsulates the myriad of emotions that bloom on your special day. Tears of joy, heartfelt smiles, and embraces shared between you and your loved ones – these moments are irreplaceable. A skilled photographer has the ability to freeze these genuine emotions, allowing you to relive them whenever you glance at your photographs.

7. Post-Processing: A Touch of Magic

Once the camera has captured the moments, the editing process steps in to add the finishing touch of refinement. If your photographer is responsible for editing, communicate your preferences for colour tones, retouching, and any desired effects. For those editing their own pictures, consistency is key. Develop an editing style that enhances the innate beauty of the images without overshadowing them.

8. The Beauty of Storytelling

Professional wedding pictures are not just about single shots; they come together to create a narrative that reflects your love story. The sequence of photos should unfold like a visual poem, each frame flowing seamlessly into the next. From the anticipation of getting ready to the joyous vows exchanged and the jubilant celebrations, your wedding album should weave a tale that resonates for generations to come.

9. The Magic of Composition

Professional wedding pictures are more than just snapshots; they are meticulously composed artworks that balance subject, background, and emotion. A skilled photographer uses various compositional techniques, such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing, to create captivating visuals. By paying attention to composition, your wedding photographs can transform into captivating works of art that draw the viewer’s eye and convey a sense of sophistication.

10. The Power of Patience

Capturing professional wedding pictures requires a dash of patience. While some moments are planned and anticipated, others unfold unexpectedly. A skilled photographer understands the rhythm of the event and knows when to patiently wait for the perfect shot. Their ability to be in the right place at the right time ensures that they capture fleeting moments and emotions that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.

11. Capturing Candid Moments: Techniques for Emotion-Filled Wedding Photography

Candid moments are the heart and soul of wedding photography, capturing genuine emotions, interactions, and the raw essence of the day. These unscripted shots offer a treasure trove of memories that transport you back to the joy and authenticity of your celebration. Here are specific tips and technique I as a photographer am using to master the art of capturing candid moments and emotions during your wedding:

1. Be Unobtrusive: I blend into the background and avoid disrupting the natural flow of events. This allows me to capture authentic reactions without people being conscious of the camera.

2. Use a Telephoto Lens: A telephoto lens allows me to capture candid moments from a distance, giving you the advantage of being inconspicuous while focusing on genuine emotions.

3. Anticipate Emotions: Familiarize myself with the schedule and sequence of events during the wedding. This enables me to anticipate emotional moments like the first look, vows, and toasts, ensuring you’re in the right place at the right time.

4. Embrace Burst Mode: I set my camera to burst mode to capture a series of shots in rapid succession. This increases my chances of capturing fleeting expressions and candid interactions without missing a beat.

5. Focus on Reactions: Candid moments often happen in response to key events. I do my best to capture the reactions of the couple, family, and guests during significant moments, such as exchanging rings, cutting the cake, and heartfelt speeches.

6. Seek Unscripted Interactions: I capture interactions between guests, such as laughter shared between friends or heartfelt conversations between family members. These moments provide a well-rounded view of the celebration.

7. Capture Preparations: I document the behind-the-scenes preparations of the bride, groom, and their respective parties. These moments are filled with genuine emotions as everyone readies themselves for the big day.

8. Storytelling Details: I focus on small yet significant details that tell a story, like a father wiping a tear during the father-daughter dance or a flower girl gazing in awe at the bride.

9. Capture Kids and Pets: Children and pets bring an element of unpredictability to the day, resulting in authentic and heart-warming candid shots.

10. Candid Portraits: While posed portraits it is essential for me to encourage natural interactions during portrait sessions. I ask the couple to share a joke or a tender moment, resulting in candid expressions.

11. Leverage Natural Settings: I capture candid shots in scenic locations, utilizing natural backdrops to enhance the authenticity of the moment.

12. Stay Observant: I keep an eye out for small, intimate moments that might go unnoticed, like a stolen kiss, a comforting touch, or a shared smile.

13. Be Patient: Candid moments can be spontaneous, so I am patient and ready to capture them when they occur. A quiet observer captures the most authentic shots.

14. Editing Carefully: When editing candid shots, I enhance rather than alter the natural emotions. Retouching should be subtle to maintain the authenticity of the moment.

The journey to creating professional wedding pictures is a blend of careful planning, effective communication, attention to detail, and an understanding of the art of photography. Whether you’re entrusting this task to a seasoned professional or embracing the challenge yourself, these guidelines will elevate your wedding album to a collection of images that reflect the elegance, emotions, and timeless essence of your special day. Remember, your wedding pictures are more than photographs; they are the legacy of your love story, ready to be cherished by you and generations to come.

Photographing Fire Performance

#event, wedding day

I met Yasmin Chadwick at the event I was photographing. The combination of the night and fire is magical and my favourite, but those shows can happen any time of the day. Perfect idea to entertain your guests during a wedding party or any other type of celebration. Fire is offering endless creative opportunities. Not only can beauty be found in the flames themselves, but they also bathe the surroundings in wonderful warm light. Photographing fire performances, such as fire dancing or fire breathing, can be both challenging and exciting. These performances often involve fast and dynamic movements, making it important to capture the energy and intensity of the fire.

Here are some tips to help you capture stunning photographs of fire performances:

  1. Communicate with the performer: Before the performance begins, have a conversation with the performer to understand their routine, movements, and any safety considerations. This will help you anticipate their actions and capture the most captivating moments.
  2. Use a fast lens: Fire performances are often held in low-light conditions or at night, so having a lens with a wide aperture (low f-stop number) will allow you to capture more light and maintain faster shutter speeds. A lens with a focal length of around 50mm to 85mm is versatile for capturing both close-up shots and wider angles.
  3. Choose the right camera settings:
    • Set your camera to Manual mode (M) for full control over the exposure settings.
    • Use a higher ISO setting (e.g., ISO 800 to 1600) to compensate for the low light conditions. Keep in mind that higher ISOs may introduce some noise, so find the right balance for your camera.
    • Select a wide aperture (low f-stop value) to allow more light into the camera and achieve a shallow depth of field, isolating the performer from the background.
    • Start with a faster shutter speed (e.g., 1/250th of a second or faster) to freeze the motion and capture sharp images of the fire. Adjust your shutter speed as needed to accommodate the speed and movement of the performance.
  4. Use burst mode: Fire performances involve fast movements, so using your camera’s burst or continuous shooting mode can increase your chances of capturing the perfect moment. This way, you can capture multiple frames in quick succession and choose the best shots later.
  5. Pay attention to composition: Compose your shots carefully to capture the energy and grace of the performer. Experiment with different angles, perspectives, and framing techniques to create dynamic and visually appealing images. Consider using the rule of thirds or leading lines to create a more balanced and engaging composition.
  6. Focus on the performer’s eyes: The eyes are often the most expressive part of the performer’s face. Try to focus on their eyes to capture their emotions and intensity during the performance. If autofocus struggles to lock onto the subject due to the fire, switch to manual focus for more control.
  7. Capture the fire trails: Fire performances involve swirling, spinning, and waving of fire props, which can create captivating fire trails. Experiment with longer shutter speeds (e.g., 1/15th of a second or slower) to capture the motion blur of the fire trails. Combine this with a steady hand or tripod to avoid camera shake.
  8. Use creative lighting techniques: Fire performances often have their own ambient light sources. Experiment with the available light and try using long-exposure techniques to capture the movement of the performer with the fire trails in the frame. This can create dynamic and artistic images.
  9. Post-processing: After capturing your fire performance photos, use photo editing software to enhance the images. Adjust the exposure, contrast, and colour balance as needed to bring out the details and create a more impactful image. Be mindful not to over process the images, keeping the authenticity and atmosphere of the performance intact.

Remember to respect the performer’s space and prioritize safety during the fire performance. Also, ensure that you are adhering to any regulations or guidelines related to photography at the event.

Surprise Engagement Photoshoot, Yes or No?

#wedding, engagement, wedding day
Lala & Claudio, Cologne Germany 06/05/2023

I love engagements, and just in a last two weeks I was honoured to be a part of two ‘surprise engagement photo sessions’.

This was such a great experience to see how the face of the future bride was changing and lighting up, and how the emotions were playing the main role during this process.

Should you have a photographer for a surprise engagement?

Anna & Jon, Smoke and Mirrors, Bristol 13/05/2023

Yes, you should! The memories will last forever no matter what. Many people still do not think is necessary to capture these moments, but I believe that exactly those moments, moments which are changing our whole life are worth to be freeze in time, for us to look back in a few years into the future and remind ourselves how happy and hopeful we felt.

How can you surprise your engagement?

Rhi & Gareth, Tredegar House, Newport 22/06/2019
  1. Make a list of your partner’s favourite things.
  2. Ask your friends and family for help with the organisation.
  3. The right location is an important factor. Choose wisely. You both must feel comfortable in this moment.
  4. To avoid any hiccups, make sure you plan everything long in advance, this is one of the most important moments in your life.
  5. When it comes to marriage proposals, timing is everything. You want the moment to be perfect, and hiring an engagement photographer to capture the moment is a great way to ensure that. It can be a great test to see if this photographer would be the right choice to shoot your entire wedding day, use this opportunity.
  6. Two is better than one, even photographers, we can share the attention to you both and everyone of us can concentrate our lens on one of you. Perfect solution.
  7. Do not be afraid to look ‘ugly’. When the emotions will overwhelm you, do not be afraid to cry, the real feelings are making photos great.
  8. Do not overcomplicate things, you both are the main characters in this engagement surprise, and you both should enjoy it. Keep it simple.
  9. A little bit of food and drink is a nice touch. You can plan a picnic in the park or simply book a table in your favourite restaurant to celebrate your engagement.

What should you avoid when organise an engagement photo session?

  • Matching Outfits
  • Loud Patterns
  • Brand Logos
  • Trendy Pieces
  • Anything out of Character
  • Pyjamas or Athleisure
  • Ill-Fitting Clothing
  • Too Many Outfits

But only when you want the session to be like everyone else. I personally would go for the crazy outfit, what is wrong with pyjama, if this is who you are bring it on! Do something different for you both to remember this day, this exact moment, something you are going to tell your kids about, your grandkids, something which whenever you will think about will make you smile and bring this worm feeling back in a second. Do not avoid anything. Make sure you both are comfortable; you are the stars in this engagement moment.

How will I take your surprise engagement photos?

  1. A day before the engagement photoshoot I would go around the place and plan everything from a to z.
  2. I would expect you to meet with me then I could suggest you all the details should happen; like which side to face into, where to kneel. We must work together. I will ask you to give your future wife/husband a kiss on a forehead right before you bend on your knee to send me a signal the big moment is going to happen NOW!
  3. I will be using a telephoto lens to be able to be as far as possible not to intrude in the moment but still ‘tell’ a complete story’.
  4. The ‘Yes’ is only the beginning. I will stay shooting and most probably will reveal myself to take pictures from different angles.
  5. When the emotion goes down, I will introduce myself to your future wife / husband and we will do a mini engagement session on the spot.

Are you ready to propose yet? Let’s plan it together. Get in touch!

Should I hire a professional photographer for my wedding?

#wedding

I am a member of many wedding groups across Facebook and believe me, I cannot count how many times I saw a post that says:

“We decided not to have a photographer, we are going to ask our guests to take photos during our wedding day.”

In the first moment, this can sound like a good plan. You do not have strangers walking around you and your guests for the whole day and you are saving money, which can be spent somewhere else, but … YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE!!!

This day will never repeat itself and you only have one chance to capture the most important moments of your wedding, so make sure you trust and have confidence in the person who is taking your photos.

dsc5656

Your neighbour, cousin, or uncle who has got an expensive camera offered to take the photos for you. He picked the camera up a few times last year, once during the holiday, and two more times when walking around the park. Your niece received a new iPhone for Christmas and she constantly taking selfies, she can take your wedding photos as well. But what a disappointment after they show you your photos … many were blurred, too bright or too dark you could not recognise who was on them, your guests, even you and your husband lost your head a few times, there wear maybe a five, ok six you could show at work, post on Instagram, and none with a quality to print, such a shame!

An expensive camera is not everything, you need someone who knows how to use it, someone with experience in taking photos in a different light and different conditions. It is a photographer who knows how to make adjustments that everything would look like in real life, not the camera itself. Photographer has developed their skill and knowledge through years of experience and many hours of shooting. With this you get consistency, not one or two good photos, but a whole album’s worth of stunning ones.

_DSC5700

Once your wedding day is over, the photos are taken, and you can pick up your bags and enjoy the honeymoon time. The photographer’s job is not done. There are many hours of editing in front of the professional, to make sure when you return home and you get to see your wedding photos, you will know it was worth the money you spend.
You must remember that at the end of the day, you will re-sell your dress, or put it back in the box and hide it in the attic with the hope that your future daughter would like to wear it at her wedding and there will be no slice cake left. Apart from memories, all you will end up with are going to be photos of your big day.

_DSC5728

During our family and friends’ gatherings, we love to pick up albums and go through our photos. We laugh, and many times we cannot believe how we could wear the clothes we wore, or dance the way we did, many times we can remember the feelings we had when exact photos were taken. Every time we discover some new details or remind ourselves about the details which we did not pay attention to back then or we forgot like the colour of the t-shirt we were wearing, or how long our hair was.
Make sure these positive memories will stay with you forever in the future and reminds you how important photography is and how good you spent a bit more and hired a professional to be able to cherish them.

Beauty of the BBQ and people interaction

Uncategorized

“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.”
– Luciano Pavarotti

I was fortunate to photograph Joe’s from Flamin’ Joe’s BBQ journey from the very beginning. We met a few years back during one of the networking groups and we found out we shared passion for heavy music and love for food. At that time Joe had a bailiff company but his heart was not there. He struggled to collect people belongings when he knew they did not have much anyway. He decided to follow his instinct and he opened Flamin’ Joe’s BBQ.

How happy I was when he contacted me in April 2021 and asked to take photos of his food. This was the beginning, and the rest is now a history. Joe’s place is doing great! But running a ‘Dark Arts Kitchen by Flamin’ Joe’s’ in Bowen Industrial Estate is not the only fun he is having. He loves to organise small events where all different businesses collaborate to bring joy to us, people who love food and fun.

Just the last weekend I was taking photos for the one of this join forces. Flamin’ Joe’s BBQ together with Fferm Gelli organised the very first cookout for this year. And let me tell you, they both created a great magic!

Fferm Gelli is a little farm in a little village called Trinant in South Wales and a home to their dogs, cats, goats, sheep, chickens and many more. The animals’ corner is a great addition to the farm, all those creatures are owners’ pets, each has a name and a cracking personality to match.

You are more then welcome to visit them for a camping, glamping, or simply pop up to try their Welsh food and relax with a coffee during when your little ones could enjoy interaction with rabbits and chickens. Did I already mention that the views around are breath taking?

Fferm Gelli provided the space for BBQ party, and they also took care of the bar, in a mean time Joe and his team took care of the culinary side and made lots, and lots of food. Perfectly smoked brisket and racks of Honey – Sriracha ribs were a hit of the night.

Everything prepared in his custom-made Myfanwy was back in work and mobile. Team from Meat City Smokers can build anything from barrel smokers all the way to catering trailers, if you would like a smoker any shape and any size check them out and I know they will happily fulfil any requirements.

Let’s not forget genuine people interaction which made whole atmosphere completed. As Julia Child said, “People who love to eat are always the best people.” Food is more than survival, with it we make friends, and even when times are tough, it is easier to survive when we can share the meal together.

“I watch cooking change the cook, just as it transforms the food.”

The Canada Lodge & Lake Wedding Possible Ideas

Uncategorized

I am extremely excited every time The Canada Lodge & Lake are contacting me about upcoming event. It is fast becoming one of my favourite venues for weddings. Situated just a stone’s throw away from Cardiff City Centre, it is an absolute hidden gem.

The Lodge itself is a perfect option for weddings of more than 50 guests. Despite being located so close to the Cardiff, it is surrounded by the woods and has a gorgeous five-acre lake, views onto The Rhodri’s By The Lake and on-site cabins and subterranean apartments available for you and your guests.

The experienced team of event coordinators is there to help from the day you book your wedding until the moment you walk down the aisle. They are fully licensed for civil weddings and partnerships, which means you do not have to spend extra money somewhere else.

The Oak Room

One of the many things I love about Canada Lodge & Lake is that they offer two stunning rooms for your wedding. The ceremony takes place in the very specious Oak Room overlooking the lake. The room itself is a stunning, romantic space for you to decorate and personalise as you’d like. The room has a rustic feel with crackling wood burning fires, which makes it perfectly suited for both intimate weddings and larger weddings with a capacity of up to 120 seated day guests or 180 evening guests.

Reception

After the ceremony, enjoy a drink or two from the bar in The Oak Room with your guests. You can all have a wander out in the terrace or the lakeside patio. It’s the perfect time and space for me to capture some cute candid photos of you all living your absolute best lives.

You can also have a fun with entertainment chosen by you.

The Little Events Company

The Lakeside Room

The wedding breakfast usually takes place downstairs in The Lakeside room, with access to the grounds and covered patio also overlooking the lake. Bring your bubbly from upstairs and get ready to laugh and cry through the speeches as I sneak around the room capturing all those timeless reactions.

After dinner, the Lakeside Room is transforming into the dancefloor space for you to perform the first dance and show the crazy moves with all your friends and family. Do not forget to bring Convers as the night is going to be very long.

The Long Weekend Starlight Events South Wales

Not only does having these two rooms make your life easier on the day, but it also means I can jump between them to catch the most important moments of your celebration.

The Lakeside Patio

Ohhhhh … did I mention The Lakeside Patio! Do not let me start about this space!!!

It is amazing you can walk out with your drink and relax for a moment or play games but still watching your party mates inside. And do not worry if the rain is pouring as there is nicely lighted canopy installed all over the patio area, which makes it perfect for any type of weather all year around. This also allows you to have your evening buffet be served over here. Their new wood-fire pizza oven, burgers hotdogs, hog roast and dessert station are perfect addition to your perfect wedding. Let’s try them all!!!

Conclusion

The one thing I can only add is enjoy your day, be silly, have fun make sure that the photos I will take during your wedding will make you smile!

How to build your food photography portfolio?

Uncategorized

We all started somewhere, most of us in our own or our friend’s kitchen. I was always excited about upcoming parties, as I knew I would have opportunity to take a few shots. I was photographing everything and everyone. This was not enough and not the quality I wanted. I started to cook a specially for photoshoot. I worked on food styling and my props collection started to grow rapidly. But not all of us feel confident in the kitchen and the peanut batter toast cannot be photograph over and over again. What to do then?

Simple! Visit your local restaurant, bar, pub, any place which serves food. Order coffee and cupcake, sandwich, anything you fancy at this moment and start take photos. I love food, not only to photograph but also to eat. I love to explore, to find new flavours, new ideas, new looks. An Instagram is a perfect tool to find the place which will be different than any other. This way I found the Longa, Turkish Café , classic food with modern twist.

When I saw photos on their Instagram page, I knew I had to book the table. I am not big breakfast person, but on the day of my visit I could not wait to eat. The Café is run by two amazing and young girls, Gizem and Simge.

We did not have a much time to talk, this place is extremely busy, but I found out that they are baking all the bread which they serve and sell in. I must tell you it is incredible.

The whole team will do everything possible to make your stay nice and enjoyable. And the food …

First, the food, when delivered to your table, looks amazing! You can see that everything is fresh and prepared a specially for you.

Second, the food is a dream to photograph, so many different colours and textures, everything is presented on different type of plates and bowls. You can take shots of one section or of the whole set up.

Do not make my mistake and visit place like this one alone, as the other person could not be so patience with you taking photos as you wish. I was always hearing “Can we eat yet?”, “Did you finished yet?”, “This is going to be cold in time you are going to be done!”. Make this experience your own, it is worth it.

From a place like this you can easily come out with ten or more shoots for your portfolio. Try to choose nice and sunny day for your visit, as you cannot set up additional lighting. Do not choose a table directly by the window as the light can be too harsh. 50mm lens is perfect for this type of expedition. When post processing the photos, try to avoid filters, natural looking food catch the eye. If you would like to take a photo of the place, it is always recommended to ask the person in charge for permission. When you explain them why you want to do that, most of the time they will let you.

I highly recommend the Longa Café and for sure will be back to try something new one day in the future.

Let me know about your experience in places around you. Was it easy to take a photos? I am looking forward to hear from you!

Saal Digital UK

Uncategorized

I am not sure if you remember, but some time ago, I posted on my Facebook page that I have won a Professional Line Photo Book worth of £100 from Saal Digital UK . I made a decision that this would be my Food Portfolio album.

I had so much fun to choose which photos should be included inside, how should they be placed, how I wanted the cover to look like, what shape of the book I would prefer. It was not always easy to decide. The Saal’s website has got so many options, I was changing my mind many times.

It took me few days to complete the task. Not because I had a problem to navigate the program. This part was very easy. The system is user friendly and even you are not techy person you will be able to complete your album without any problems. I simply wanted this album to represent my work the best it could.

Finally I have decided to produce a Portrait Style 22 x 30 Photo Book Professional Line, matte photo paper, leather black cover and 60 pages.

I was not sure what to expect, I knew I did not risk anything. In the worst scenario I would have a photo album which would have no use as the quality would not let me to show it to anyone. Soon after I placed my order the book arrived. Straight away I touched it I knew I won’t be disappointed. The quality is amazing, overall look is very professional and my photos looks alive!

I can highly recommend the company. Top service from every side, starting from customer service. I have been informed about every step and contact the representatives have been very responsive and helpful.

Bravo Saal Digital UK, I am definitely going to order another album with you!

Products in photography (Part 3)

Uncategorized

I am very busy lately with my food photography. It is amazing to see how much people understand about benefits of useing good quality images on websites and social media, the trend changed during the last year. Many realised that those type of photos have got bigger potential for being liked, commented or even shared, but most definitely they are growing the business. I am against using any type of filters when shooting food or products. Let’s show your audience exactly what they are going to buy. This of course does not mean those photos should be boring. Most definitely far from that.

I have bought three flavoured Coca-Cola some time ago and today decided to have a little bit fun with them. I asked my youngest boy for assistance. I had this great idea in my head for him to be a model in this photoshoot, however this was not his day. He could not focus, stay still even for a moment and he was laughing all the time. I tried to think fast how to change my vision but still have fun during the whole process. I decided to bring the scenery up to life.

Tymon worked amazing as an assistant, he still was giggling and made funny faces which helped us to enjoy the task even more. I used only one lamp during this shooting. It was situated on my left side and brightened up all set from the top. As you can see, the shadows are stronger than usually in my work, I did not bounce the light from any reflector. I quite like the darker mood of this scenery. Purring drink was ok, but nothing new, we have done this before and everyone were doing this many times as well. We decided to play with bubbles and we both loved it.

I was very happy with the outcome, but still was missing something more real and alive. It took me a little bit time to came up with idea to involve our little pet rat into the scenery. The only problem was Cookie was never trained to perform tricks, therefore we had to sit patiently and wait for the best moments. For sure she did not disappointed.

Practice, try something new. Your ideas are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but they are going to be your ideas which can evolve to something bigger in the future. Simply enjoy the process.

Girl and her Horse

Uncategorized

I met Hayley during one of my daily walks by canal. She was taking care of Puff and we started to talk.

After few days I ended up taking photos of this amazing pair.

I never shoot horses this way before but I use to ride and knew somehow what’s they like. I took my youngest boy with me and we filled his bag pack with apples, this was a very good shot.

I think we still would be OK without them as the connection between girl and her horse was so real, strong and unbreakable they just acted natural all the time.

I am not an expert with animal photography but this is what I learned during my last photoshoot:

  1. If possible, spend some time with the animal to know it better before you start to take the photos. Simply take your time with them.

2. Let them get use to to the noise of your camera. My Nikon D750 is not the most quiet one on the market. I had to take few dummy shots to check how Puff will react to it. He was careful on the beginning but did not bother later during the session.

3. Employ a faster shutter speed. Animals constantly moving and you need to take few quick shots to be able to catch the right moment. The faster the shutter speed the less likely you are to blur the movement.

4. Choose time of the day when theight is not to harsh. When you shoot during very bright time the shodows are going to be too dark. ‘Golden hour’ work as a diffuser and better angle light on your animal subject.

5. If you can include the owner into the photo it is always much easier job as their know they pets. When Puff started to be unpatience Hayley started to rub gis belly to calm him down.

6. Enjoy the moment. None of the photos you take are going to be the same. You can be very surprise with the outcome of the session. I definitely cannot wait for next time when I am going to catch this pair when jumping.
